When you find a dog at Shannon Farmz that you want to adopt how does it work and what will happen?
- First thing to do is fill out an adoption application and get approved to adopt from our rescue.
- Once an application is submitted you will get a confirmation email that we received your it and we should be in touch within 72 hours from the time we receive your application. If you do not hear from us for some reason send us an email or give us a call. Sometimes there are issues with the computers, internet, or any other unforeseen issues.
- Once we receive your application we will put it through review and make sure you are a good fit for adopting the animal you are interested in. If we don’t think a particular animal is a good fit we may suggest another one of ours or maybe even one from another rescue. You will get an email from us within 72 hours with an approval/disapproval for the adoption you seek from our rescue. If we are in need of more information we will email or call you directly.
- Once your application is approved we will set up a meet & greet at our facility for any of your current pets to meet your possible new family member. It is always better to meet for the first time at a new place, not your home, to see how everyone will behave on neutral ground. Your current pets will be more protective of their home to newcomers.
- If everything goes well with meet & greet, we will then set up a home drop off time where we will bring your new companion to your home for a physical home visit and to finish up paperwork and payment. At the home visit we will have you sign an adoption contract that gives you ownership of the adopted animal and obligates the adopter to return the animal to the rescue if for any reason they cannot keep or care for the animal any longer.
At the time of adoption our rescue dogs are fully vaccinated with Rabies, Bordetella, and the annual equivalent of DAPP. They will be spayed/neutered and microchipped, which will be fully registered to the new owner once past the 10-day adoption trial period. There is a 10-day trial period, which begins following the final home visit, where if the animal is not a good fit the adopter can return the animal to the rescue and get a full refund of the adoption fee. We will always take the animal back post adoption. If the adopter is moving and can’t take the animal, the adopter can’t financial care for the animal any longer, any unforeseen reason……WE WILL ALWAYS TAKE THEM BACK!!!
